FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When / how do we receive our video?

Videos are uploaded (to a cloud folder specifically for your congregation) on Thursdays, which gives congregations plenty of time to download the video and prepare for weekend services.

What about worship liturgy, scriptures, and sermon title?

With each sermon video, you’ll receive corresponding scripture references and a sermon title for use in the bulletin. If you would like a complete worship liturgy - which includes texts for the bulletin and a full worship “script” for readers/liturgists - we can provide it for a modest administration fee.

What equipment will we need and what start-up costs can we expect?

The only startup costs are those for the equipment to show the videos in worship. As there are a variety of ways that congregations can incorporate the sermon video into worship, your decision about how to do so will dictate the equipment you’ll need. We’ll walk you through the options and the equipment needed for each. Start-up costs will vary, depending on both how the congregation will view the video, as well as the kind of equipment to which your church has access. In order to help offset start up costs, we offer a free month for first-time quarterly subscribers!

What about the Lord’s Supper?

Congregations who are without a pastor and who have a hard time finding pulpit supply often have Ruling Elders who are commissioned to celebrate the Lord’s Supper. In cases like these, we provide a video communion liturgy which can be used in worship, in coordination with the leadership of those authorized to celebrate the sacrament. These videos do not replace authorized celebrants, so please consult the leadership of your Presbytery and/or Committee on Ministry for direction.

What does it cost?

Quarterly Commitment - $650 / QUARTER (approx $50 per week)

Congregations who commit to digital pulpit supply for a full quarter (3 months) will receive a sermon video for each Sunday (including any 5th Sundays during that period), a sermon video for any special service (Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve, etc), and one video of communion liturgy each month.

First-time subscribers who choose to commit to digital pulpit supply for a full quarter will receive their first month free in order to help offset any costs for setting up the system.

Monthly Commitment - $250 / MONTH (approx $62 per week)

Congregations who commit to digital pulpit supply for one calendar month will receive sermon videos for each Sunday in the month and one video of communion liturgy.

Single Service - $75 / SERVICE

Congregations may choose to commit to digital pulpit supply for a single worship service, either for Sunday morning or for a special service. (A great option for any church! We can even make arrangements on short notice or in emergencies!)

ABOUT THE REVEREND MARGARETANNE OVERSTREET

Rev. Overstreet (or ‘Pastor Meg’) has spent more than a dozen years preaching: sometimes in churches so far out of town that even GPS couldn’t be trusted to navigate correctly. She says, “Part of what I love about the church is that we all come in, and sit down next to someone who probably disagrees with us on issues of faith and life, and we have the challenge and the privilege of struggling side-by-side and together to live faithfully as God’s people. It’s a pretty amazing thing!”

Digital Pulpit Supply

a creative way to provide ongoing preaching

Through a partnership between a small congregation, and a pastor whose ministry has always been with and for small churches, comes a digital offering for small and/or isolated churches that have trouble finding regular, dependable pulpit supply … especially the kind of pulpit supply that can offer an engaging, uplifting, challenging sermon from a gifted preacher.

Westminster Presbyterian Church’s ministry of digital pulpit supply provides churches with a weekly sermon video, plus the option of full worship liturgies. It’s not only an excellent solution for churches that need assistance with preaching and worship preparation due to an ongoing void in pastoral leadership, but it also works equally well for churches who simply need occasional pulpit supply.

According to Pastor Meg, “This idea comes from the belief that there are too many churches who struggle to find pulpit supply, due to finances or geography or size. We want to be a part of the solution to that problem. Many years ago, I heard a colleague say: ‘Small churches deserve good preaching, too.’ That comment has always been a powerful motivator for me.”

For churches who are intimidated by the idea of implementing new technology: fear not! Westminster is a small church, too, and we want to help simplify the challenge of providing quality pulpit supply, not give you an additional burden. We’ll walk you through the process for setting up this simple system (including options for doing it on a tight budget!) and we’ll continue to be available to answer questions. We see this as the beginning of an ongoing relationship.

We do ask churches to help offset some of the costs for providing this service … but the total cost to any congregation is less than the cost for regular pulpit supply.

Below, you will find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions, a link to YouTube (where you can see lots of sermons), and more information about cost.

Call or email us, and we’ll be happy to help you prepare to talk to your congregation’s governing board and to discuss how to get started. We’ll even send you a sermon video for your congregation to try out in worship.
